The 2005 Alcoa Country Championships were conducted from 21 - 23 January. This year, ASAOC was delighted to welcome new sponsor Alcoa to the event. Technical Officials at the meet looked very smart indeed wearing the navy and white Alcoa shirt.
The meet was the most successful ever with over three hundred swimmers representing 35 Country Clubs from Kununurra to Albany and Exmouth out to Kambalda and Esperance participating in the three day meet.

The Mandurah Club won the lion's share of the medals taking home a total of 123 shared among their forty three swimmers. Albany, with only twenty seven swimmers, were runners up taking 66 medals, while Geraldton's twenty swimmers took home 54 medals. However, the best memories for all swimmers were the 935 personal best times recorded over the weekend.
New Country records went to Nat Ruback (Hedland) and Brooke Wilson (Broome). Nat, whose birthday fell on the last day of the meet, broke records in 800m freestyle - 9:16.88, 200 IM - 2:25.93, 100m breaststroke - 1:14.04 and 200m breaststroke - 2:39.83. Brooke's records came in 400m freestyle where she broke her own record in 5:03.31.
Congratulations to swimmers on their achievements at the 2005 Alcoa Country Championships.
