2009 Coaches Conference
Over 55 coaches, including several regional coaches, attended the 2009 Coaches Conference held at Challenge Stadium on Saturday 26th & Sunday 27th September. All coaches were invited to attend the weekend conference to help assist in their professional development.

It was the first year that this conference was held in conjunction with the Development Squad Camp and it was a great opportunity for coaches to see all the action of the Flippers Squad training, direct from the pool deck.

ASAOC would like to thank the Department of Sport and Recreation, WA Coaches, Julie and David Speechley from Swim Ed for their support.

Thank you to our guest speaker, Peter Bishop, who presented the group with some very useful information on ‘coaching an effective age group program & technique analysis', as well as WAIS Swimming and Performance Manager, Greg Hodge for his presentation on ‘the athlete education & evaluation process - measurement tools, athlete attributes, coach and athlete communication', Andrew Lyttle from WAIS who discussed ‘biomechanics & race analysis, starts, turns & underwater kicking as well as the latest innovation in swimming' and Swimming Australia's National Youth Coach Leigh Nugent, who flew all the way from Brisbane to attend.

The conference was very well received and the evaluation form feedback was very positive.

"A well presented conference; practical coaching sessions with development squad training was invaluable. As a coach in a country region it is not always possible & practical to see others and learn from them".
