2008/09 ASAOC Squads and Athlete Pathway

 

 The ASAOC Development Pathway - The ASAOC Development Pathway

The 2008 / 09 ASAOC Development Squads have been selected. All squad swimmers have been invited to attend the Development Squad Camp which will run in September under the guidance of Head Coach Doug Frost. The Development Squad Camp aims to prepare swimmers for possible future experiences on a National Team and will include both pool training sessions and educational sessions all which aim to improve the swimmers performances.

 

The Flippers squad swimmers were selected on their performance during the 2008 Australian Age Championships where pool swimmers who were the 6th placed Australian or better in an individual event were selected into the squad. Open Water Swimmers were selected if they placed either 1st or 2nd in the 5km or 10km swim and also qualified for a distance pool event. The following swimmers have been selected in the 2008 / 09 Flippers Squad:

The ASAOC Rising Stars Age Development Squad is made up of swimmers who have recorded a time equal to or faster than the 10th fastest time the in the finals at the 2008 Australian Age Championships in their respective age group. Swimmers were able to record the times at the 2008 Australian Open, 2008 Australian Age, 2008 SWA Sprint Champs or 2008 SWA State Age and Open events to qualify for the Rising Stars Squad. A maximum of 28 swimmers were eligible for this squad. Open Water swimmers were selected in the ASAOC Rising Stars Squad if they placed 5th or higher in the 5km or 10km at Australian Open / Age Open Water Championships and only two places are available. Swimmers who are members of the WAIS Elite Squad, WAIS Development Squad, National Youth Squad or Flippers State Squad are ineligible for selection in the Rising Stars Age Development Squad. The following swimmers have been selected for the 2008 / 09 ASAOC Rising Stars Squad:

The 2008 / 09 Regional Talent Development Squad (formerly the Regional Academy of Sport Squad) provides talented country swimmers with development and educational opportunities to assist them in the pursuit of higher achievements at a National Standard.  Swimmers must reside, train and go to school in the country and list a country club as their first claim swim club in order to be eligible for the Regional Talent Development Squad.  Athlete selection is based on performances at the 2008 Australian Age Championships, SunSmart State Open Championships, SunSmart State Junior Championships, Sprint Championships and Country Championships.

Priority is given to the following and is in order of highest priority to lowest priority:

1) Australian Age/ Open Medallists
2) Australian Age/ Open Finalists
3) Australian Age/ Open Heats
4) Australian Age/ Open qualifying time at one of the selection meets (but did not attend National Age/ Open Championships)
5) Athletes who have achieved a time within 5% of a Australian Age / Open qualifying time.

Open Water Swimmers are selected on the following criteria athletes that have qualified for the Australian Open/ Age Open Water Championships AND have achieved a time within 5% of a Australian Age / Open qualifying time, only two places are available to Open Water Swimmers
