The Australian Paralympic Committee is celebrating after the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) voted for the re-inclusion of athletes with an intellectual disability into the Paralympic Games.

The Toyota Paralympic Talent Search Program makes its second appearance in regional Western Australia with a Talent Search day to be held at the Albany Leisure & Aquatic Centre on Sunday 20 September 2009.

The 2009 Australian Paralympic Youth Games will be held from 5 – 10 October 2009 in Melbourne, hosted by Wheelchair Sports Victoria. The Toyota Paralympic Talent Search Program continues throughout Western Australia with a Swimming Talent Search day to be held at Challenge Stadium in Mt Claremont on Saturday 2 May 2009. The Toyota Paralympic Talent Search program has proven to be very successful with 27 Athletes identified through this program being selected to represent Australia in Beijing at the 2008 Paralympic Games with 15 going on to win medals. The search is now on to identify the next generation of Paralympic champions for London and beyond.

The Arafura Games will run in May 2009 and will incorporate the Oceania Paralympic Championships.

International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD) is part of a worldwide celebration that occurs on 3 December each year. The day is a collaborative effort to celebrate and acknowledge the contributions and experiences of people with disability.
