Piper's World Cup Pay Day
Australian 200m LC & SC Breaststroke record holder Jim Piper has finished the 2004-2005 FINA World Cup Series with an overall ranking of third handing the West Coast swimmer US$20,000.

Summer Sprint Championship Winners
This years Summer Sprints attracted a field of over five hundred swimmers and recorded two WA All Comers, three WA All Time and five WA Residential records for the meet.

2005 Club Premierships
The 2005 Club Premierships were a great success with West Coast taking out the A division while Swan Hills, Central Aquatic and Lawley Aquatic won B,C and D respectively.

2005 SunSmart Club Championship Points
Having been close runners up in the past few years, City of Perth are this year the overall winners of the Metropolitan Club Championship Shield for the most points scored during the SunSmart State Championship Series. West Coast, their main rivals and winners in the past several years, have been relegated to runners up while Arena finished third. Mandurah were once again outright winners of the Country Club Shield ahead of Broome and Kambalda.

City of Perth Tops 2005 Relay Meet
In an upset over the performance in recent years, City of Perth topped the list for the most points recorded by a club at the 2005 SunSmart State Relay Championships. West Coast were runners up with Arena coming in third. There was an increased number of entries this year and a total of thirty three State and Country records were broken at the meet.

New Sandgroper Continues to Improve
New sandgroper, Jim Piper, has returned to his pre Olympic form taking out a silver medal in the 200m Breaststroke event at the World Cup Meet in Moscow. Piper clocked 2:06.98 to claim the silver medal behind Russian, Grigory Falko beating his rival Ed Moses from USA.

Important Update from Swimming Australia
In 2002 FINA changed Rule GR7.1 in order to limit the amount of advertising allowed on swimmers’ competition swim wear. Swimming Australia has just released an important information update regarding use of logos on swim wear at the 2005 Australian Championships.

MD Swimmers' Success at SunSmart Meets
A number of WA's multidisability swimmers posted personal best times at the recent SunSmart State Championship series of meets. Many of these bettered the time currently recognised as the Australian record for the event, however recognition by the appropriate authorities is still pending. Congratulations to all these swimmers.

WA Stars Shine Bright at Youth Olympic Festival
WA swimmers Lisande Dingjan (Fremantle Port), Bobby Jovanovich (City of Perth), Amy Lucas (West Coast) and Stephanie Winter (west Coast) were selected to wear the green and gold on the 2005 Australian Youth Olympic Festival Team. At the meet conducted at the Sydney International Aquatic Centre from 20 - 23 January, they did us proud.

Another Aussie Record Falls at SunSmart Open Meet
A most successful 2005 SunSmart State Open/Junior Championships was conducted at Challenge Stadium over the weekend 13 - 16 January. The meet saw thirty four new Australian, State and Country records set by eight of our swimmers. Garth Kates set provisional a new Australian record for 15 year olds while Lauren Winter broke an Open State record, which had stood for almost fifteen years.

Corey Stars at SunSmart State Age
The 2005 SunSmart State Championships conducted at Challenge Stadium from 6 - 9 January confirmed the depth of talent in Western Australian Age group swimming with sixty seven new Australian, State and WA Country records being set. City of Perth's Corey McIntosh was the stand out performer during the four days of the meet.
